DAYTONA – Hamilton County High School Culinary Arts students attended the Sharpen Your Skills event at Daytona State College in Daytona on April 15.
The students rotated through three kitchens to learn about meat, pastries and vegetables.
In the meat kitchen, the students were shown the proper techniques to fabricate chicken which was then prepared to grill or pressure fry. In the pastry kitchen, students learned about plating and garnishing desserts with chocolate, fruits and creams. In the vegetable kitchen, students prepared salads, a sweet potato dish and broccoli and carrots with different seasonings.
At the end of the day, students and teachers were treated to a lunch buffet that featured items that were prepared by the students.
“This was a great experience for the culinary students,” said Geniane Bell, Culinary Arts Instructor.
