Lila Mae Bradley Collins
VALDOSTA — Lila Mae Bradley Collins began her eternal life on Saturday, July 9, 2005. She was born on Feb. 15, 1909, in Montezuma to the late Dan and Elizabeth Bradley.
She was united in holy matrimony for 36 years to the late William Samuel Collins Sr.
A graduate of Fort Valley State College, she taught for 42 years in the public school system of Georgia, retiring from the Lowndes County School System in 1971.
Mrs. Collins was a faithful member of the Macedonia First Baptist Church where she served as president of the Deaconess Board, treasurer of the Building Fund, member of the Trustee Board, member of the Senior Choir, and Sunday School teacher.
She was the first Most Ancient Matron of the Heriones of Jericho, Esther Court No. 659, Valdosta District No. 19, of the Smooth Ashlar Grand Lodge of the York Rite Masons. Mrs. Collins was also a founding member of the Jolly Twelve Club.
She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, a devoted daughter, Winifred Virginia Collins of Valdosta; a loving stepson, William Samuel Collins Jr. (Katherine) of Williamsport, N.J.; special friends, Mildred Hunter, Ann Montgomery Riley, DeLois, and Ada Hargett, all of Valdosta; cousins, Coretha Harris, Cordelia Briggs, both of Long Branch, N.J.; Gladys Jackson of Rivera Beach, Fla., and Arletha Chapman of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Macedonia Church family.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in the name of Lila Collins to the “Macedonia First Baptist Church Building Fund.”
Funeral services for Mrs. Collins will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2005, at Macedonia First Baptist Church. The Rev. Bertrum M. Whitfield Sr., pastor; Chaplain L.C. Hughes, will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. — Stevens Funeral Home of Valdosta
Charles Robinson
RAY CITY — Charles Robinson, 74, of Ray City, died July 10, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born on April 26, 1931, in Cook County to the late Joseph Carl and Flonnie Bell Harris Robinson. He lived most of his life in Lowndes County and lived in Ray City the past several years. He was a retired master electrician, an Army veteran, fought during the Korean conflict and received a Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Rentz Robinson of Ray City; one son and daughter-in-law, Wesley “Woody” and Debbie Robinson of Valdosta; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and James Cagle of Ray City; three grandchildren, Daniel Cagle, Valdosta, Christin Cagle and Hannah Cagle of Ray City; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland Robinson, Hahira, Joe and Golda Faye Robinson, Muskogee, Okla., Johnny and Judy Robinson, Dunn, N.C., E.J. Robinson, Muskogee, Okla.; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel Strawder of Ray City, Mary Ann and Junior Brown, Hahira, Ruth and Tom Treadwell, Valdosta. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Robinson and Ronald Robinson; and one sister, Doris Pickett.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., today, July 13, 2005, at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Cagle officiating. Burial will be held in Concord Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. — Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Adel
George Elton Robinson
HAHIRA — George Elton Robinson, 90, of Hahira died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at his home surrounded by family and friends after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons disease. He was born on Dec. 1, 1914, in Ellaville to the late George R. and Effie Larkin Robinson. He was a wonderful family man and in November 2004, he and his wife, Marjorie, celebrated 69 years of marriage with a party with family and friends. During his lifetime, he and his wife enjoyed travels throughout the U.S.A., Canada and to the Holy Land. Mr. Robinson was a member of the Hahira United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church, serving as church school superintendent, lay leader, trustee member and membership in the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group. Mr. Robinson retired with 35 years of service with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A gentle man, he enjoyed being with relatives and friends and engaging his funny stories, discussing world issues and politics. Family singing was one of his favorite activities. He was generous with his resources for Christian and charitable organizations.
He was the beloved husband of his wife of 69 years, Marjorie Robinson; a wonderful father to his daughters, Delores and husband Mack Wayne Dowdy of LaCanada, Calif., Leonra Tillman and husband Jerry Wright of Hahira; and a deceased son, Gareth Robinson; also surviving are grandsons, Richard Dowdy and wife Ana Maria, Brian Dowdy of California, David Tillman and wife Vickie of Florida, Mark Tillman and wife Marcy of North Georgia; granddaughters, Kathy Shetler of Texas and Linda Baragona of California; great-grandchildren, Hannah Tillman, Richard William Dowdy, Leslie Ann Dowdy, Jason Shetler, Tommy and Kevin Baragona. He was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Smith; and a brother, Howard Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2005, at the Hahira United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Morgan and the Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. in the Ellaville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Jack Wilkerson
VALDOSTA — Mrs. Jack Wilkerson, 75, of Valdosta, died on Monday, July 11, 2005, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on Dec. 24, 1929, in Dawson, Texas, she was the daughter of the late L. E. Sr. and Nettie Jane Blakley Black. Mrs. Wilkerson was a housewife and a member of Lakeland Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jack Wilkerson of Valdosta; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Jeannine Wilkerson, Rick and Joy Wilkerson, all of Valdosta; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Phillip Beach of Arab, Ala., Kathi and John Williams of Valdosta; sister, Martha Eberhard of Austin, Texas; sister-in-law, Florence Black of Waco, Texas; brothers-in-law, Frank Wilkerson and his wife Maydell of Callahan, Fla., Ferrell Herring of Ray City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, John David Williams Jr.; brother, L.E. Black Jr.; sisters, Letha Faye Jackson, Francis White; brothers-in-law, David Eberhard, Henry Wilkerson; sister-in-law, Myrtle Herring; father-in-law, W.W. Wilkerson; and mother-in-law, Mary Alvera Wilkerson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilkerson will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Mardy Gardner and the Rev. Jim Schappaugh will officiate. Burial will follow in Cat Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
