MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie educator honored by his peers last month died Thursday.
Kenneth Lynn Tanner, named Post-Secondary Instructor of the Year July 12 by the Georgia Association of Career and Technical Education, died as a result of complications following a relatively minor procedure at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said Saturday.
“They were thinking all the time Thursday he’d be able to go home Friday afternoon,” Brock said, “and before daylight Friday he passed away.”
Tanner, 53, was chair of Southern Regional Technical College’s Automotive Technology Program and was the Georgia state director of SkillsUSA.
He was Master ASE certified and a National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation evaluation team leader.
Tanner received the Instructor of the Year award July 12. Tanner died less than a day after his success was highlighted in the newspaper Thursday morning.
The Observer received news of his death late Friday afternoon, so no one from SRTC was available to provide comment or additional information.
