Coach Freddy Segura helps develop youth soccer with summer practices

LIVE OAK — Freddy Segura loves soccer. You can sense it right away when he talks about the sport.

It’s also pretty evident with the time he is devoting this summer to help youth soccer players.

Segura is coaching kids ages 6 to 12 this summer to help prepare them for the upcoming soccer season. He says they meet five days a week, two days in the morning and three days in the afternoon.

He doesn’t charge a fee. 

The SHS assistant coach and former professional soccer player in Mexico’s Third Division is more focused on helping young players grow.

Segura said there are a lot of talented players in the area, and that being able to play throughout the year will help them improve.    

His son, Jacob Segura, is helping him with practices. 

Jacob Segura was a senior midfielder for the Bulldogs last year. He will play collegiately at Thomas University in Thomasville, Ga. in the fall.
