VALDOSTA — Washers and dryers are expensive, and when they both break at the same time, they are even more expensive.

Appliance Warehouse on East Hill Avenue recently opened to help residents get new and refurbished appliances at a lower price.

What residents may ask themselves is, if the prices are lower, are they getting an inferior product?

Store manager Julia Bruhl thinks otherwise.

“We recycle for Sears, Home Depot and Lowe’s,” she said. “We are dedicated to making tomorrow a better place.”

When Appliance Warehouse recycles its product from its distributor, it is getting brand-new product, used product and what Bruhl called “scratch and dent.”

Scratch and dent are products that are usually brand new but were dented or scratched while being stocked in the store or while being shipped, she said.

If there are any problems with the appliances when it is received, Appliance Warehouse uses its stock of appliances and the in-house parts department to fix any issues, then they clean the appliance before selling it, she said.

“All repairs are made in house.”

While the thought of buying a new appliance is appealing, Bruhl tries helping residents see the benefit of buying refurbished products.

“The best thing about buying refurbished is that between the first and third year something goes wrong with dryers,” she said. “We get them after the problem and we fix it.”

Appliance Warehouse carries washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, new mattresses, lawnmowers, microwaves and other appliances.

The selection of fridges that Appliance Warehouse carries includes top mounts, bottom mounts, side-by-sides, trios and quads.

A top mount has a freezer on top; a bottom mount has a freezer on bottom; a side-by-side has french doors with a freezer on one side and the fridge on the other; a trio has the fridge on top with french doors and the freezer on the bottom; a quad has the fridge on top with french doors and the freezer on bottom, Bruhl said. The difference with the quad is it has two separate freezer compartments.

French doors on a refrigerator are when the doors have two handles towards the middle of the refrigerator and open outward, as opposed to one handle on one side with one handle and swinging open.

For stoves it carries glass top and coil. Appliance Warehouse does not carry gas stoves unless they are “new out of the box,” she said. “There is more of a risk.”

It also carries over the range vent hoods and microwaves, as wells as counter top microwaves.

Over the range means above the stove, Bruhl said.

For washers and dryers, it carries front-load and top-load washers, basic and front-load dryers and stacked washer and dryers.

The difference between front-load and top-load washers is how the washer is loaded and how it cleans the clothes, Bruhl said.

Both basic and front-load dryers are loaded from the front, she said. On the front load dryer the controls are on the front of the appliance, while the basic dryer is a traditional dryer and the controls are on a backsplash at the back of the appliance.

Along with new mattresses, Appliance Warehouse sells adjustable bed bases.

“Say you want to watch television,” she said. “You don’t have to stack your pillows up, you just have to adjust your base.”

Washers start at $99, dryers start at $79, refrigerators start at $100, stoves start at $125 and new mattresses start at $75.

The business also offers a mix-and-match deal, Bruhl said. If a customer buys two or more appliances, she is willing to work a deal with the customer for buying in a package. She also regularly sets up kitchen sets, or appliances that fit together nicely to furnish an entire kitchen.

Appliance Warehouse is willing to work with residents who cannot afford to buy products outright. It has a 30- to 90-day warranty on all products, lay-away, in-house financing with no interest and credit check for up to 90 days, Bruhl said.

Appliance Warehouse is located at 511 W. Hill Ave. and is open 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.
