Alvin. J. ‘Buck’ Castleberry

LENOX — Alvin J. “Buck” Castleberry, 85, of Lenox, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, at his home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Castleberry was born in Colquitt County and lived most of his life in Cook County. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Ebnezer Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ida Norman and John Jerry Castleberry, and one brother, John Henry Castleberry. He is survived by his former wife, Alma Bennett Castleberry; daughter, Brenda McBrayer, Tifton; daughter, Kitty Ray, Lenox; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Gene Parker, Rome; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Ann Castleberry, Lake Charles, La., Jerry and Kelly Castleberry, King Salmon, Alaska, Stan and Gloria Castleberry, Lenox, and son, Steve Castleberry, Cave Springs; three brothers, Jessie Castleberry, Tifton, Harvey Castleberry, Moultrie, Leroy Castleberry, Norman Park; three sisters, Novella Bennett, Tifton, Nella Selph, Tifton, Frances Sellers, Norman Park; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be held tonight from 6-9 p.m. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with burial in the Church cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Roberts, the Rev. George Cordie Cox

LENOX — George Cordie Cox, 81, of Lenox died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, Adel. Funeral services will be held at the Lenox Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 with the Rev. Lamar Harris, the Rev. Jimmie Hinson, the Rev. Dan Robinson and the Rev. Herman Walker officiating. Burial will be at the Lenox City Cemetery and pallbearers will be Danny Harrell, Scott Blount, Kevin Blount, Greg Gibbs, Neal Gibbs, Michael Cox, Louie Maloney and Frank Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Cox, Randy Hall, Ricky Lindsey, Ronald Walker, Henry Walker and Wayne Harrell. The body will lie in state in the church for one hour before the service. Mr. Cox was born on Jan. 18, 1921, and was a retired barber and owner of the Lenox Barber Shop. He was a Untied States Army veteran of World War II, Burma Road. He was a lifetime resident of Lenox. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Heart Association. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel. He was preceded in death by his father William Frank Cox and mother, Eunie Versal Stone Cox; one brother, Gordon Cox and two sisters, Dorothy Daniels and Bobbie Lindsey Sumner. Mr. Cox is survived by his spouse, Judy Irene Walker Cox, Lenox; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Dana Cox, Douglas; three daughters and one son-in-law, Glenda Gibbs, Lenox, Wanda and Gary Blount, Lenox, and Vicki Cox, Tifton; one sister, Ilene Walker, Ty Ty; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. — Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors, Tiftarea Chapel.



Princey Mae McMillian

LAKE PARK — On May 12, 1908, Princey Mae McMillian was born in Lowndes County, to the late Doc and Treezar Wright who both preceded her in death. At a young age she accepted Christ into her life and she became a member of Concord Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully until her health failed. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mae A. Dock, her husband, Mack McMillian and two brothers, E.K. Wright and W.H. Wright Sr. She is survived by a very devoted sister-in-law, Rebeckah Wright and very devoted nephew, W.H. Wright Jr. and a host of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Park. The Rev. Don Carter is the pastor and he will officiate. Johnny Miley

MOULTRIE — Johnny Miley, 56, Moultrie, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Colquitt Regional Medial Center after a lengthy illness. Mr. Miley was born in Cook County and had lived





in this area all of his life. He was a retired diesel mechanic and was of the Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robbie Nell Taylor and J.D. Miley. His is survived by his wife; Emma Jean Miley; daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Jack Crosby, Moultrie; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Glenn Maness, Goolidge; daughter, Tina Miley, Moultrie; one son, Keith “Bubba” Miley, Moultrie; three brothers, Robert L. Miley, Adel, Jimmy Dale Miley, Hahira, Joe Miley, Adel; three sisters, Linda Goff, Sparks, Bunkie Bailey, Adel, Patricia Trucker, Adel; seven grandchildren, Duncan Maness, Hannah Maness, Trey Maness, Becky Maness, Kayla Crosby Cobb, Faith Crosby, Hope Crosby; one great grandchild, Makaelyn Cobb. Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Purvis Funeral Home with burial in Fellowship Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6-9 p.m.. William Eugene Norsworthy Sr.

MAYDAY — William Eugene Norsworthy Sr., 83, of Mayday died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at Heritage House Nursing Home. He was born on Sept. 8, 1918, in Henry County to the late Troy Eugene and Lois Spier Norsworthy, and was married to the late Mary Sue Cowart Norsworthy. He had lived in the Echols County area since 1934, and was a member of Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Norsworthy was retired from ITT Thompson Industries. He is survived by three daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Paul Hebert, Betty and Augustine Martinez all of Mayday, Juanita and Wayne Faircloth of Whigham; one son, William E. (Bill) Norsworthy of Mayday, 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Norsworthy of Tampa, Fla. He was preceded in death by his by his parents, his wife and a brother, Glenn Norsworthy. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall and The Rev. Wayne Boykin officiating. Burial will follow in Wayfare Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Gene Smith

VALDOSTA — Gene Smith, 72, of Valdosta died Sunday evening, May 26, 2002, at his home. He was born in Valdosta on Nov. 28, 1929. Gene was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church and former member of the Forrest Street United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher for many years; Sunday School Superintendent; Chairman of the Administrative Board; Church Lay Leader; Church Treasurer and other positions over the years. Gene had served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Tommy Griner Inc. with 30 years service as manager of the parts department and continued to work part-time as a consultant for the Griner Automotive Group. Gene is survived by his wife of 45 years, Leonora Warren Smith of Valdosta; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Randy Jeffery of Monroe; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Susan Smith of Savannah; four grandchildren, John and James Jeffery of Monroe, Harrison and Emily Smith of Savannah, one brother and sister-in-law , Jack and Karol Smith of Tifton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Quinton and Mary Warren of Valdosta and Jim and Smokey Warren of Monroe, La.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorrie C. Johns. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Benny Woods and Rev. Dorothy L. Mullis, 65, of Valdosta passed away Sunday evening, May 26, 2002 at her residence. She was born in Colquitt County, and lived in Valdosta for most of her life. Funeral Services will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday may 30, 2002 in the Valdosta Chapel of Music Funeral Services with the family receiving friends following the service at the funeral home.
