WHITE SPRINGS – The 10th Annual Ice Cream Social was held Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Willi Guy Turner Park.

Kizzy Burch started the Ice Cream Social in 2006 as a reward for her children getting good grades and to motivate them to keep pushing and as the years went by it grew.

“The event was a major success,” Burch said.

She added that an estimated 500 people were in attendance.

Burch said 226 backpacks were given away and they served over 300 students.

“Once our backpacks ran out we started giving them supplies in a regular bag,” Burch said. “So that every student left with the necessary supplies needed for a successful school year. We even served a few college students.”

Students were also treated to a hot dog lunch, ice cream and games.

Burch promised that the event would be bigger and better next year.

Burch would like to thank all of the sponsors, businesses and volunteers who helped make the event a success.
