Incumbents Lamb, Edwards win on election night

- Polls were open in Lafayette County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
MAYO — The votes have been tallied in Lafayette County and incumbent Sheriff Brian Lamb won 82.48 percent of votes to defeat challenger Russell Ditter.
School Superintendent Robby Edwards received 58.25 percent of votes to defeat Ricky Lyons.
Lafayette County Democrat party voters chose Shelia Bates Adams to run for tax collector against Charles B. ‘Chuck’ Hewett Jr. (Rep.) in November. Bates received 762 votes. Lynette R. Ellis received 556 votes and Tim. M. Greenhalgh had 206.
In the race for County Commission District 1, Lance Lamb received 63.37 percent of votes to win against Chad Driver.
School Board District 4 will be represented by Amanda Tidwell Hickman. Hickman received 56.19 percent of votes running against Steven Harris.
Lisa Walker will be County Commissioner District 3. She received 39.12 percent of votes to defeat William “Bill” Shaw, 30.51 percent, and Norman E. “Andy” Jackson, Jr., who received 30.37 percent of votes.
On Amendment 4, The Florida Property Tax Exemptions for Renewable Energy Equipment Amendment, 1,167 voted yes for the amendment or 57.29 percent of voters.
State Elections
For United States Senator, Marco Rubio won the Florida primary for the Republican party.
Rubio took 79.82 percent of votes in Lafayette County and 71.99 percent in Florida.
Patrick Murphy won the Democratic Primary for US Senate. Murphy had the most votes in Lafayette County with 38.55 percent. He took Florida with 58.95 percent.
Democrat party voters in Lafayette County chose Steve Crapps over Walter Dartland for US Congress District 2. Crapps took 75.82 percent of local votes. As of press time, Crapps is behind Dartland district wide by 136 votes. Dartland has 30,092 votes while Crapps has received 29,956.
This is a difference of 0.22 percent.
A victory of less than half of 1 percent triggers a recount for the race; a victory of less than a quarter of 1 percent triggers a hand recount.
With each county’s unofficial results, including provisional ballots, due to the state by noon, Sept. 2, it could be several days before the state announces if a recount is needed.
If a recount is ordered, it could be a up to a week or more before the race is officially declared.
Republican Neal Dunn will run against Dartland or Crapps in November. Dunn received the most votes in Lafayette County for US Congress District 2. He won 50.83 percent of votes. Mary Thomas received 36.24 percent and Ken Sukhia received 12.93 percent of the votes. Dunn took 41.39 percent of total district votes to defeat Thomas’ 39.3 percent.
For Circuit Judge, Circuit 3, Paul S. Bryan defeated T. Bradley McRae. Bryan took 58.14 percent of Lafayette County votes and 55.51 percent overall in the district.
Voter turnout in Lafayette County was 52.55 percent with 2,302 ballots cast.
