Hamilton County High School Principal Gene Starr is, in his own words, excited about the new head football coach. Starr said, “Coach Green will bring youth and energy to our program.”

Coach Corey Green is young but with four years playing college football and four years teaching high school football, he feels that he is capable of leading the Trojans to victory.

After playing quarterback at Columbia County High School, Coach Green played free safety at the University of South Carolina for two years and then transferred to Carson-Newman University for another two years. He has been Defense Coordinator at Cook County High School in Georgia for the last four years.

Although he won’t meet the players until today, Coach Green is excited about the future of the team. “I expect the team to work hard and continue to build on what has already been achieved. We are in a tough, competitive district and we have an uphill battle ahead of us.”

Coach Green is expecting a large turnout of players for today’s practice and is eager to meet each player. Beginning next week practice will increase to four days a week – Monday through Thursday at 6 p.m.

Not only is the position of head coach a step up for Coach Green, it is a step closer to home. His family lives in Lake City, where his father, Danny Green, coaches at Columbia High School. “This is the closest I have lived to my family since I was eighteen,” Coach Green said. “I’m glad to be home.”
