According to the police department:

Officers were called to the intersection of Tyler Street and Chattanooga Road at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday following a report of a man with a gunshot wound. A 42-year-old Dalton man told officers he had been shot in a drive-by shooting. The said an “older muscle car” drove by and he heard what he thought was the vehicle backfiring. He then realized he’d been shot in the abdomen.

Officers found several inconsistencies with his story. They and detectives determined the shooting actually took place at a house at 604 Luckie St. after an argument between the man and Williams, possibly regarding drugs. Officers served a search warrant at the house on Thursday afternoon and found a .380 handgun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting and other evidence of the crime. Williams was arrested without incident at approximately 3:45 Thursday afternoon.

He is charged with aggravated assault with a gun, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of meth. Jason Freeman, 34, was at the house when officers executed the search warrant and was arrested but is not considered a suspect in the shooting. Freeman was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of meth and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
