Ken Altman Sr.
VALDOSTA — Ken Altman, Sr., 53, of Valdosta died Sunday, April 20, 2003 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on August 12, 1949 in Valdosta to Eleanor Lamar Kendall Altman and the late Walter Green Altman, Jr. Mr. Altman was a member of the Park Avenue United Methodist Church where he served as head usher and a Communion Steward. He was a 1967 graduate of Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Ga. and graduated from Valdosta State College. Mr. Altman had taught at Hahira Junior High School and Valdosta Junior High School and was currently a land developer and building contractor. He was associated with his son in Kendall Homes Inc.
Survivors include his wife the former Mary Beth Robertson, his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Leslie Altman McAllister and James Crane McAllister, Sr., his son and daughter-in-law, Lamar Kendall Altman, Jr. and Brooke Shelley Altman, two grandchildren, Kirsten Brooke McAllister and James Crane McAllister, Jr., his mother, Lamar Altman, sister and brother-in-law, Jadan and Ronnie Pitcock, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Jackie Altman, Bill and Jennifer Altman all of Valdosta, his mother- in-law, Mrs. Vernard E. Robertson of St. Simons and a wide extended family. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter G. Altman, Jr. and his father in law, Rev. Vernard E. Robertson.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2003 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Craig Rikard and Mr. Will Zant officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6- 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. — Carson McLane Funeral Home
Starr Howell Tart
VALDOSTA — Starr Howell Tart of Valdosta died Sunday, April 20, 2003 at her home. She was born in Valdosta, Sept. 19, 1946 to Star Howell and the late John Howell of Valdosta. Ms. Tart was an active member of New Covenant Church where she hosted Home Church for several years. She graduated from Valdosta High School and the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She received her Masters degree from Auburn University. Starr was a dedicated eighth-grade teacher at Lowndes Middle School for the last 13 years.
Ms. Tart is survived by her daughter Meredith Starr Tart of Athens, Ga.; and son, Captain Nathan and Emily Tart of Little Rock, Ark.; and her mother Star Clark Howell, of Valdosta. Survivors also include her two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan Howell Moseley and Dr. Hank Moseley of Valdosta and Beth Howell Machen and Martin Machen of Charlotte, NC. Nieces include Beth Anne Moseley, Katherine Moseley, and Melanie Machen; and nephews Tad Moseley and Wil Machen.
Funeral services will be held at New Covenant Church Wednesday, April 23 at 11:00 a.m. with L. A. Joiner and Randy Stephen officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Florene DeLoach
Florene DeLoach, 81, of Valdosta, died on Monday, April 21, 2003, at home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2003, at the Carson McLane Chapel. Entombment will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lonnie Samuel
Mr. Lonnie Samuel, age 53, of Morven, Ga., passed away on Saturday, April 19, 203, at the South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Ga. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by the Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman.
Emanuel Williams
Mr. Emanuel Williams, age 77, who resided at 4110 Lightsey Road, passed away on April 16, 2003, at South Georgia Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 3 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Naylor. Interment will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Naylor. The body will lay in state at the church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on April 23, 2003.
