LIVE OAK —Jayshree Subramanian, a local yoga instructor helps people make transformations of the mind, body and soul through yoga.
Subramanian is originally from India but did not study yoga until she suffered lower back issues in her 20’s.
She took yoga and soon fell in love with it.
“I found such amazing transformation for my mind, body and soul,” Subramanian said.
She met Meki Pearson of Mayo in 2016.
Pearson experienced a spinal cord stroke in Oct. 14, 2015. She had went for a walk that morning and after arriving home felt a strange, painful sensation from her waist down.
She had laid down hoping it will subside but she soon realized she could not move anything from the waist down.
Pearson had been in physical therapy and could walk with the assistance of a cane. She had hit a plateau where she was no longer improving.
She started taking yoga.
“I’ve come a long way since I’ve started yoga,” Pearson said. “I give God the glory for leading me here.”
Pearson said Subramanian is so patient.
“I want to focus on alignment and make sure they are doing it right even if slowly,” Subramanian said.
Subramanian said the great thing about Pearson is she is consistent in coming to classes and practicing at home.
Pearson is now able to walk without a cane.
“It helps you emotionally and with your confidence,” Pearson said. “It helps you from the inside out.”
Martha Humphries started taking yoga at Person’s suggestion.
Her goal when starting was regaining upper body strength and balance.
“It is amazing how far I’ve come in both those areas,” Humphries said.
She added the benefits are amazing and age does not matter.
Nita Mathis started taking the yoga class last summer to help with her neck and back problems.
“This just helps me keep moving without pain,” Mathis said.
She added Subramanian is mindful of her students abilities and does not create a competition atmosphere.
“I can’t imagine life without it,” Mathis said.
