Cadets capture honors in JROTC drill competition

Hamilton County High School Air Force JROTC (Unit FL-943) Drill Team competed in the recent Nature Coast Drill Meet and garnered several third-place finishes.



The competition between eleven area high school units was held at F.W. Springstead High School in Springhill. The JROTC Drill Team from HCHS turned-in stellar performances to earn third-place honors in three categories – Cadet Lt. Col. Daron Seymore commanded the Unarmed Regulation Drill Team to trophy honors – Best Drill Team Commander was earned by Cadet Major Princess Hill – Cadet Capt. Bobby Feather commanded the Regulation Color Guard to its third-place win.



In one of its most noteworthy performances in recent years, the HCHS FL-943 Drill Team, placed 4th in overall competition at Springhill.



Senior Aerospace Science Instructor Lt. Col. Darrell Davis lauded the Cadets for their accomplishment; “Our kids were great. They practiced as a team, performed as a team and the results speak for themselves.”



Four of the AFJROTC schools that competed were ranked tops in the state of Florida and two were ranked nationally.”We faced some tough competition. For our Cadets to compete against that level and win says a lot about their dedication and desire to be the best,” noted FL-943 Aerospace Science Instructor MSgt. Scott Griggs.



The HCHS AFJROTC Drill Team’s next competition is this weekend at the Southeastern Regional Drill Meet in Tifton, GA.



The HCHS JROTC ball is slated for March 6 and the Annual Awards Banquet is scheduled April 29 at the J.R.E. Lee Educational Complex.
