A new sticker advocating the Move Over Law, passed in 2002, will soon be placed at all gas stations in Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The purpose of this campaign is to help make the public more aware of this law in hopes of encouraging everyone to follow it when encountering law enforcement and emergency vehicles on the roadway.
The new sticker is called “Help Protect Those Who Protect You.” It has three individuals representing the various types of emergency workers who put their lives on the line in order to protect us.
The Move Over Law, sponsored by the Senate Transportation Committee and Senator Victor Crist, requires all motorists to safely move over and slow down, whether emergency vehicles are approaching or passing by, or such vehicles are already at the scene of an accident or other type of emergency. “Motorists must approach emergency vehicles with caution; change lanes away from emergency vehicles if traveling on a multi-lane road and can do so safely; or slow down at a safe speed so as not to block the flow of traffic,” FHP said.
