S.L. Mason celebrates accelerated readers

VALDOSTA — S.L. Mason Elementary School held its annual Accelerated Reading celebration at the end of the school year.

Jerrod Grier sang the new Reading Bowl song he wrote and Nicole Anderson introduced the next year’s Reading Bowl team, according to a Valdosta City Schools press release.

The awards that were given out included top 10 students with highest number of AR points and 85 percent average in each grade level, highest number of points and 85 percent average in each class and for meeting AR goal and 85 percent average three of the four nine weeks. 

A name was drawn from the top 10 in each grade level to win a Kindle Fire reader, according to VCS. A name was also drawn from each grade level from the students who met the requirements for three of the four nine weeks and the winning students received a new bike. Students with the highest points in each class were given a limousine ride to Books-a-Million and lunch at Zaxby’s.

VCS thanked supporters of the AR program for their contributions toward prizes: Adams Orthodontics, Azalea City Kiwanis Club, Ashley Deloach of Elliano’s, Janice Hines Hunt, Katy Houston of Valdosta Teachers Federal Credit Union, Randy Steedley, Spirit Screen Printing, South Georgia Medical Center, South Georgia Travel and Zaxby’s on St. Augustine. VCS also thanked S.L. Mason Parent Teacher Organization for its contribution towards the limo ride and Kindle Fires. VCS also thanked Valdosta Limo and Books-a-Million.
