REMERTON — An up-scale consignment boutique that made its debut less than a year ago now has new owners and inventory and a fresh approach. Toads and Teacups, named after favorites for little boys and girls, is no longer under the ownership of Vondia Noland and Michelle Bradford.
Danny and Sue Crosby are the new owners who are responsible for many recent changes, including product expansion. While inventory is still largely based in consignment, they have added a number of new items: more maternity wear, more large-sized children’s clothing, some brand new clothing and larger baby items like cribs, tables, strollers and much more. More toys and books are also available now as well.
The new products are added to the wide variety of children’s items and specialty gifts that were already available.
Although they believed the previous owners had done an incredible job building clientele and customer base, the Crosbys feel that these new changes will bring positive results for Toads and Teacups through reaching a wider market. In fact, it is already showing signs of increased traffic.
Danny had been considering opening a small business before this opportunity became available last fall. Once he found Toads and Teacups was for sale, he knew he and his wife should take the chance.
The Crosbys had two daughters and four grandchildren, so they had plenty of experience with the products the store offered. Danny was more than prepared for retail work; he has been in music sales for more than 30 years.
Together, they plan to continue improving their new business while providing the quality service for which Toads and Teacups had been known.
Q: Are you currently accepting items on consignment?
A: Yes, as long as the items are in good condition. If you are interested, it is best to set an appointment with us.
Q: Why did you decide to keep the name?
A: It is unique and catchy; you won’t forget it. We like what it represented — boys like toads and girls like teacups. It shows we offer something for all children.
Q: Do you like the location?
A: (Sue) I like it. The traffic flow compliments the volume of products we can hold.
Q: What do you offer?
A: Clothing, both new and on consignment, toys, books, furniture, photo albums, blankets, baby gifts and much, much more.
Q: What goals do you have?
A: We would like to expand in size. Add more space for displaying merchandise and in the future, add more locations under the same name.
Q: What payment method?
A: Cash, check, Visa and Mastercard.
Q: What should people know?
A: They need to know we offer nice clothes, many are name brand. We have several nice dresses for pageants or balls; several have already been sold for the Father Daughter Dance. Everything we offer is in good condition; it is a very nice store.
