A 10-year-old has been arrested and charged in two recent fires at Wayne Frier’s Mobile Home Sales in Live Oak, according to the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO). The boy allegedly confessed Tuesday to starting a Thanksgiving morning fire that damaged or destroyed eight mobile homes used as storage sheds, as well as a Tuesday, Dec. 19 fire that badly damaged a new mobile home, said an SCSO spokesman. There were no injuries in either fire.

The Dec. 19 fire was reported at about 1:45 a.m. after a motorist on US 129 reported seeing a “ball of fire” in the distance. Firefighters arrived within minutes and extinguished the blaze before the home was fully involved.

The Thanksgiving fire began about 4 a.m. Nov. 23. City, county, volunteer and forestry units responded to the blaze, which was contained before it spread to a nearby mobile home park but took hours to mop up.

There is no word yet as to an alleged motive, nor have authorities revealed the manner in which the fires were set.
