VALDOSTA — Forecasted temperatures in the 70s Monday may attract a few more swimmers than usual to Wild Adventures’ Fourth Annual Polar Bear Swim New Year’s Day.

For the Polar Bear Swim, Wild Adventures opens the Catchawave Bay of its Splash Island and invites park visitors to take what is always hoped will be a cold dip given that it’s winter. But the park is firmly set in South Georgia, meaning that it could be chilly or it could be the temperatures which many Northern states consider summer climes.

Though it has been cool the past few days, temperatures are expected to rise during the weekend and be in the high 60s to low 70s by Monday, New Year’s Day.

Despite its location in the warm South, Wild Adventures brings a bit of idealized winter to South Georgia each year.

The Polar Bear Swim serves as the kick-off for the park’s Arctic Adventure, which runs for the next several weeks.

Arctic Adventures has many winter-like thrills for visitors, says Sara Sumner, a Wild Adventures spokesperson.

Daredevil Hill is a slippery slope, “a gleaming, white monster,” for sledders.

Little Tykes Toboggan Run is a gentler sleigh ride.

Frosty Frolics is a snow area designed for snowballs and snowmen.

Snow Mania is a snowball firing range.

Skate Zone returns as a public ice-skating rink.
