Vikettes go 3-1 in weekend tournament

The Lowndes softball team went 3-1 at North Gwinnett’s Hawk/Bulldog Tournament this weekend, upending 2016 state champion North Gwinnett and state runner-up Mill Creek in the process.
The Vikettes’ only loss was to Buford, the 10-time consecutive state champion.
Lowndes 8
Dacula 3
Lowndes (6-2) received heavy hitting at the plate and solid pitching in the circle in its tournament-opening 8-3 win against Dacula. Rachel Wolverton went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a home run. She threw six innings, surrendering five hits for three runs (no earned runs) and 10 strikeouts.
Sophie Sumner batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a home run. Tori Hedgecock hit 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two doubles. Maidson May was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Haley Griffin batted 2 for 3.

Mill Creek 2
Rylin Hedgecock tossed a one-hitter in six innings of the Vikettes’ 3-2 victory against Mill Creek.
Rylin Hedgecock allowed two runs (no earned runs) with 12 strikeouts and three walks.
Tori Hedgecock hit 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a home run. Elie Merritt went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Sumner was 1 for 3 with a double.

N. Gwinnett 1
Rylin Hedgecock gave up four hits and a run with eight strikeouts in seven innings of Lowndes’ 4-1 win against North Gwinnett.
Jacie Johns batted 3 for 4. Wolverton was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Merritt hit 1 for 3 and scored a run. Sumner went 1 for 3 with a double, and Kayden Dickey finished 1 for 3 with a run scored.
