Hurricane Irma halts games

The looming threat of Hurricane Irma canceled or postponed a handful of Friday’s games, and the severe weather risk put a halt on weekend games, as well.

The Lowndes football game against Shiloh was postponed and rescheduled to Sept. 22, the original date for Lowndes’ home contest against Mt. Zion. Lowndes and Mt. Zion rescheduled their contest to Oct. 6. Both games are 8 p.m kickoffs.

Georgia Christian’s football game against Community Christian was canceled. There was no immediate talk of a rescheduling, GCS coach Crosby Tuck said.

Valdosta State’s football game against Fort Valley State in Waycross has been cancelled with no plans to make up the contest. VSU’s home opener against North Alabama is set for next Saturday at 7 p.m. at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Valdosta varsity softball’s Monday game against Berrien has been rescheduled for Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m.; the game will be Valdosta’s senior night, with senior presentations beginning at 5 p.m. Valdosta’s Wednesday game against Cook has been canceled with no plans for a rescheduling.

Valdosta Middle School’s Monday and Tuesday softball games have been canceled with makeup dates pending.

The Valdosta varsity volleyball game scheduled for Tuesday at Tift County has been canceled. The makeup date has been set for Sept. 25 in Tifton at 5 p.m. The middle school volleyball game scheduled for Tuesday against Georgia Christian has been canceled with a makeup date pending.
