Valwood falls against Echols County on senior day

The Valwood softball team celebrated senior day Monday afternoon, but fell to Echols County 5-0.
Senior catcher Braxton Hill and senior first baseman Blake Barnes were honored prior to the game.

Ansley Bennett pitched all seven innings for Valwood and took the loss. Bennett gave up three earned runs on eight hits, struck out three, and hit two batters.
Echols struck for four runs in the first inning. Morgan Hill led off the game with a solo home run. After the next two batters reached on errors, Anna Ellenberg hit a three-run home run to make the score 4-0. Bennett settled down after that and only allowed one more run on Hill’s second solo shot in the fourth inning.
The Valiant offense struggled a bit against Hill and Taylor Macera who combined for the shut out for Echols County. Lindsey Browning led the offense with two hits. The Valiants are now 10-2 (6-1 GISA Region 3-3A) and plays Southland in Americus on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
Southland Academy plays Tiftarea Academy in Chula tomorrow and a Tiftarea victory seals the region championship for Valwood. The only way for the Valiants to not be region champs would be for Southland to beat Tiftarea tomorrow and next Monday, beat Valwood on Wednesday and then beat the Valiants in a one-game playoff.
