Rant & Rave for Monday, Nov. 20, 2006

What’s up with the bicycle club that rides up and down Lakeland highway at 9 o’clock at night? I pray there isn’t a horrific accident along that road one night.

To the ranter about the waitress that flirts with your husband in front of you, I know exactly what you’re talking about. The same thing happens to me when my husband and I go out to dinner. It’s really annoying.

When the Brooks County Board comes out with a realistic cost appraisal for a new county hospital, then and only then will I be in favor of it and we should put it on a SPLOST tax.

Well-deserved raves go to Katie at The Vintage Dragonfly downtown. She is such a personable lady. I always enjoy myself whenever I stop in to get something to decorate my house. It’s a great store, and the fact that she’s so wonderful is icing on the cake!

Now let’s rename the library after Doc Holliday. Makes as much sense as renaming the park did.

The author of “What Happened to Decency?” may be right. However, the voters only had two choices and the loser deserved the position of Governor even less.

Voting is just one part of your duty as a citizen. Now comes the most important part — holding elected officials accountable.

It is said that the sport of football teaches life lessons. Teach the Warner Robins coach who mugged his own player during the game Friday night a life lesson. Fire him and ban him for life from the sport.

Myths for the naive: If you buy product X you can eat all you want and still lose weight. If you vote for Candidate X, you can sink into apathy-nirvana and every promise will be kept.

At the railroad tracks on Studstill Road, the stop sign heading toward Bemiss needs to be lowered. You cannot see it until you are right at the tracks.

Thank you, Valdosta, for voting for the Sunday sales.

I think it’s time for The Valdosta Times to recant its endorsement of President Bush in 2004. Clearly your line of thinking has been proven wrong, and what’s sadder is that same kind of blind faith in him caused the Republicans to lose the Congress, which means our own congressman Kingston has lost influence as well. For God’s sake, at least get rid of the newspaper with the headline “Bush defends the war” from your Web site.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is bothered by the sight of the homeless population living at exits 16 and 18. Valdosta needs a homeless shelter, that way people have some place to go when they don’t have a home. Having a soup kitchen for their meals just doesn’t cut it.

Great job to Mrs. Toni Jarvis and the seventh-grade drama class at Valdosta Middle School. Your performance of Robin Hood was outstanding!

No one is saying the Diebold machines failed this election because the Dems won. If the Republicans had won again the Dems would be out in force hollering for recounts, as usual. Bet this won’t get in Rants and Raves!
