THOMASVILLE — Two suspects, both with active warrants, were apprehended after drug agents were patrolling the north portion of Highway 319 recently.

Narcotics agents noticed Kayla Danielle McKenzie, of Meigs, in the backseat of vehicle while patrolling the area, said Louis Schofill, Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics Vice Division commander.

Agents, Schofill said, were familiar with McKenzie from past dealings.

“They had known that she was wanted on a warrant out of Colquitt County,” Schofill added.

Agents watched the vehicle turn into a gas station on Highway 319, approached the vehicle, and backup units were called.

McKenzie entered the store and drug agents made contact with the driver, Blake Calvin Braswell of Moultrie, according to Schofill. Braswell, the drug squad commander noted, had an active warrant out of Adel.

A narcotics agent began talking to Braswell, who gave a false name, Schofill said.

“He witnessed him attempting to throw a fast food trash bag out the window next to the car,” he added.

Eight milligrams of dilaudid, a form of opioid pain medication drug hydromorphone, was recovered in the bag.

McKenzie was then located and was found in possession of methamphetamine, drug related objects, and prescription pain pills.

McKenzie was charged with three counts of possession and use of drug related objects, two counts of possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, and possession of methamphetamine.

Braswell was charged with possession of schedule I/II controlled substance with intent to distribute.
