Legislative update from State Rep. John Corbett
Published 9:00 am Sunday, February 25, 2018
In 2017, the House Rural Development Council was created to identify problems plaguing rural Georgia communities and propose legislative remedies.
During Week Six (Legislative days 19-22), the House passed several important pieces of legislation recommended by the Council to ensure a bright and promising future for rural communities throughout our state.
HB 887: Creates a “Broadband Ready Community” program where local governments can receive priority consideration for broadband projects, enacts the “Georgia Reserve Auction Broadband Development Program” to incentivize private sector investment, modernizes the tax code to ensure parity.
HB 861: Changes the state definitions for rural areas to widen the scope of coverage for insurance providers.
HB 769: Clears the way for the creation of micro-hospitals, incentivizes medical providers to practice in underserved communities, and creates the “Rural Center for Healthcare Innovation and Sustainability” to ensure the viability and solvency of local hospitals.
Georgia Farm Bureau Day
During Georgia Farm Bureau Day at the Capitol, we met with the men and women who are working around the clock to keep Georgia’s largest industry growing.
We support the efforts of the Farm Bureau and appreciate their time this week.
Stop The Bleed Campaign
During Trauma Day at the Capitol, surgeons and medical professionals from all four corners of our state gathered under the Gold Dome to educate lawmakers on traumatic injuries and how to “Stop the Bleed.”
