Blazers’ offense pours in 10 runs to sweep Warhawks

Valdosta State softball (22-7, 10-5) extended its winning streak to five games as they completed a three-game sweep of Auburn Montgomery (12-9, 7-8) with a 4-2 win on Friday.

The Blazers tallied 10 hits against the Warhawks in Game 3, including a solo homer to left field by first baseman Logan Hill in the second inning––her fourth long ball of the season.

Hill, Taylor Hartenbach and designated hitter Heather Robinson had two hits apiece for the Blazers in the win.

Kasie Johnson (6-2) picked up the victory after pitching a complete game. Johnson, who picked up her second shutout of the season against the Warhawks on Thursday, struck out two while allowing four hits.

Michaelyn Foster picked up her first loss of the season for the Warhawks, who have dropped four in a row as a team. Foster struck out four and allowed four runs on nine hits in five innings of work.

The Blazers allowed a run in the first inning, but kept the Warhawks quiet the rest of the way as they cruised to a 6-1 victory in Game 2.

Blazers starter Kathryn Carter improved to 7-2 on the season with another solid outing in the circle. Carter gave up one run on five hits and struck out five without a walk as she pitched a complete game.

An RBI single by Jessica Mohl brought in Cassey Cornelius and capped the scoring for the Blazers, who crossed the plate once every inning on Friday afternoon. Brandy Morgan blasted a home run to left field in the fifth inning for her sixth home run of the season.

Mohl went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Blazers with three RBIs in the win.

The Blazers travel to Fairfield, Ala., for doubleheader action against the Miles College Golden Bears on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
