With just two days left, Georgia lawmakers will work late into the night to advance legislation before the gavel drops at midnight on March 29.

House Floor Notes

Last week, we voted on several bills authored by our colleagues in the State Senate. Here’s a quick recap:

SB 82 allows a member of the Georgia National Guard in Georgia to be eligible for the HOPE scholarship program.

SB 321 increases the penalties for Medicaid fraud. Under this legislation, Georgia will be able to claim an additional 10 percent of recovered fraudulent Medicaid payments.

SB 118 increases the mandatory age for insurance coverage for the treatment of autism spectrum disorders from 6 to 20 years old and enhances autism coverage from $30,000 to $35,000.

AG Week at the Capitol

Last week, Commissioner Gary Black and the Georgia Department of Agriculture used the Capitol rotunda and cafeterias to showcase the crops, livestock and products produced every day in Georgia.

Georgia agriculture generates $73.3 billion annually and employs one in seven of our citizens at more than than 40,000 individual farms across the state.

I am incredibly grateful for our farmers for working around the clock to keep Georgia’s oldest and largest industry growing.

Chipper at the Capitol

Atlanta Braves legend and proud Georgian Chipper Jones was honored by the House last week.

During his 19 years as an Atlanta Brave, Chipper had a .303 career batting average, 1,623 RBI, and 468 home runs (third on the Braves career home run list).

We are proud of Chipper’s accomplishments and look forward to watching his induction into the Hall of Fame this summer.
