The sound barrier wall at Adel’s South Georgia Motorsports Park on U.S. 41 has been assembled, with painting left to do.

The wall stands 12 feet high, is 140 feet long and 6 inches thick. It covers the back of the 1/4-mile drag strip, creating a strong structure where noise will be focused into the air.

The next step for the raceway is the rebuilding of VIP suites after a tornado destroyed them last year. The materials have been ordered and construction on the suites will begin this week.

South Georgia Motorsports Park is owned by Ozzy Moya. His goal is to make the raceway into a premier racing destination for racers and spectators. The facility includes a 1/4-mile drag strip sanctioned by the National Hot Rod Association, an Oval track and 380 acres of land for fairs and concerts. Ownership wants to continue helping the community by benefitting the economy and cutting down on illegal street racing.
