Student to represent NGEMC on D.C. Youth Tour
DALTON, Ga. — Dalton High School senior Erin Bethany Nelson is one of three area students chosen by North Georgia Electric Membership Corp. (NGEMC) to participate in the 2018 Washington Youth Tour, a leadership experience sponsored by electric membership cooperatives in Georgia, including NGEMC. The Youth Tour was established to inspire the next generation of leaders, said Laura Sparks, communications coordinator with NGEMC. This year’s tour, which is June 7-14, offers opportunities for students to meet policymakers, tour historic monuments and participate in leadership experiences, all while making new friends from across the state and the nation. NGEMC’s delegates were chosen through a rigorous application and interview process that considered leadership experience, academic excellence and community involvement. The three graduating seniors are among 112 students from across the state that will gather in Atlanta to kick off the tour, spending time getting to know each other before departing for Washington, D.C. When the Georgia Youth Tour delegation arrives in Washington, they will join more than 1,800 other youth representing cooperatives across the nation.
