Lowndes teen hit while crossing street for school bus

- Georgia State Patrol investigates an incident involving a female middle school student being hit by a car early Wednesday morning.
VALDOSTA – Update 12:11 p.m.
The driver of a Nissan Murano, which struck a 13-year-old girl early Wednesday morning while she was getting on a school bus, stated the bus “was in the process of stopping when children began to run into the roadway,” according to Georgia State Patrol.

According to reports, the school bus driver said he was completed stopped at the time of the collision.
Video from the school bus is currently in the process of being obtained, according to GSP.

A middle school student is currently undergoing tests at South Georgia Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning, according to Lowndes County School officials.
There is an ongoing investigation into the incident, which occurred around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, along Cat Creek Road, near Pine Grove Middle School, according to reports.
The student was attempting to get on a school bus when she was hit by a Nissan Murano; the vehicle was not speeding, according to Georgia State Patrol.

The girl was in stable condition with no serious injuries at the scene, GSP Trooper Joseph Brown said. The girl’s mother was at the scene, the trooper said.
“At the beginning of the school year, we encourage drivers to be extra careful as they approach bus stops, students getting on and off of buses, students walking to school and school buses preparing to stop,” school officials stated. “Student safety is our top priority.”
