VALDOSTA — The addition of television broadcasts has necessitated changes in the Valdosta State football schedule according to announcement made by head coach Chris Hatcher Monday.

Three of the Blazers’ 10 regular season contests will be televised as a part of the Gulf South Conference’s GSC-TV Live package, which airs on Thursday nights throughout the season on Comcast/Charter Sport Southeast and CoxSports.

The first game affected will be VSU’s contest at Ouachita Baptist, which was originally slated for a 7 p.m. kick off Saturday, Sept. 30. The game is now scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28 and is set for an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Also affected is the Blazers’ game at Delta State, which has been moved to Thursday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m., and the regular season finale at West Georgia, which will now be played on Thursday, Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.

All 11 of the GSC’s football-playing institutions will appear on GSC-TV Live during the season with VSU’s three appearances being the most by a single school.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to play on television,” Hatcher said. “It’s a huge boost to our program, both in recruiting and in regional recognition.

“I also believe it is a big boost to the university as a whole that we are able to represent it to such a large group of people. We are honored that we were the only program selected for three games and feel those three selections reflect the past successes and tradition of our program.”

Comcast/Charter Sport Southeast is available in more than 5 million homes in 11 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. CoxSports reaches more than 1.5 million homes in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

The Blazers open the 2006 season at Albany State Sept. 2 before kicking off the home portion of their schedule by hosting Fort Valley State in Bazemore-Hyder Stadium on Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Valdosta State Athletic Department at 229-333-5890.
