VALDOSTA — Two men shooting explosives caused loud noises heard throughout parts of Valdosta and Lowndes County Sunday night, police said.
Around 8:30 p.m., E911 received several calls about “boom” noises, a Valdosta Police Department statement said.
Officers and Lowndes County deputies found two men in the 2900 block of Stallings Road who admitted shooting at Tannerite, the statement said.
Tannerite is the brand name for firearms targets made of non-flammable material which can be ignited only by high forces such as bullet impacts. It is legal to own and is not federally regulated.
The two men did not realize they were inside the city limits; they were both cited for discharging a firearm in the city limits, a misdemeanor. No injuries or property damage were reported.
