VALDOSTA — Families grounded in a rural airport for the holidays.

There’s only one thing left to do.

Sing.

That’s the basic premise behind the Theatre Guild Valdosta production of “Christmas in the Air.”

The show is a home-grown production similar to “Christmas Spectacular” presented last year at The Dosta Playhouse, said Grant Brown, show director. Brown said he co-wrote the show with fellow Guild members Pauline Player, Patti and Josh Robertson, Brenda Brunston and Brock Gilliard.

“Christmas in the Air” uses Christmas music from holiday movies, such as “The Polar Express” and “The Muppet Christmas Carol,” Brown said.

Many of the songs develop characters and relationships while moving the story forward, he said.

The Guild provides a more detailed synopsis of the play: “It’s Christmas Eve and a huge, freak snowstorm has grounded all air traffic in the Southeast. A mother and her daughter on their way to Seattle, a pair of newlyweds headed to their honeymoon in Hawaii, a family of Vegas-style entertainers and a group of goofy siblings all find themselves stuck in a small airport. Joined by other travelers and the airport’s staff, they decide to make the most of their unplanned layover and make it a Christmas they will all remember.”

All “in the Ludowici International Airport,” Brown said.

A cast of veteran Guild performers and newcomers play the various characters. A few special guests will also appear in the show, he said.

“Families should really enjoy this show,” Brown said.
