VALDOSTA — Affordable Tire Service brings the Christmas spirit a little differently this year.
A decorated Christmas tree compiled of 12 used tires is causing quite the stir among community members, said Kenney Griner, store owner.

He said not only does he receive positive feedback while out and about but passersby have taken a liking to the display and have stopped to take photos with it.
“It’s just turned into a neat little project, and everybody seems to like it,” Griner said. “The first day we put it up, we got (about) 150 likes on Facebook.”
Kenney Griner’s son, tire technician Jesse Griner, brainstormed the idea of a tire tree after seeing one on the internet a few years ago.
A first for Affordable Tire Service, it took a few hours to paint green and two days to decorate, Jesse Griner said.
The base of the tree is an airplane tire. A tractor tire and a semi-truck tire sit on top of the base, while car and lawn mower tires form the rest of the tree.
About 1,420 lights are strung along the tree and multicolored ornaments are placed on it. A star centered in the middle of a tire acts as the tree topper.

“We’ll see people in the store in the morning, and they’ll say it’s beautiful,” Jesse Griner said.
Kenney Griner said the tree does not look as if it’s made of tires at night while the lights are lit.
He and his son agree it’s attracting attention to their business. Kenney Griner said the display will grow next Christmas.
“Next year, we’ll have tire snowmen, and we’re going to make a wreath out of motorcycle tires,” Kenney Griner said.
Affordable Tire Service is located at 1508 Madison Highway for anyone wanting to see the tire tree.
