Cone tabbed Gulf South Conference Co-Pitcher of Week

VALDOSTA –– Valdosta State junior pitcher Tristan Cone was named Gulf South Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. He shares the honor with West Georgia hurler Cason Greathouse.

This marks the first weekly honor for the Blazers this season in baseball and the first for Cone.

Cone, a junior lefty from Soperton, Ga., earned his second win of the season in the opening game of a three-game conference series at Lee last Friday. Cone went six innings and combined in the shutout, holding a no-hitter through his innings, walking two and fanning five in the 5-0 win over the Flames.

For the season, Cone is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three appearances with two starts. He has pitched a team-high 14 innings, allowing 11 hits, two earned runs, walked five and fanned 20. Teams are hitting .204 against him. Cone has combined in two shutouts for the Blazers.

Following the game, VSU returns home to host Kentucky Wesleyan Feb. 24-25 at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park with a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. and a single game Monday at 4 p.m.
