VALDOSTA — Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine prom will soon return to South Georgia.
Night to Shine is an international program sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, which offers the prom experience to special-needs guests annually.
The prom will be for adults and teenagers ages 14 and up on Feb. 8.
First Baptist Church will host the event, and SkillsUSA students at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will help guests as they prepare for the event.
SkillsUSA is a national partnership that helps industry students be job ready through workforce development, previously stated Kelley Wetherington, campus life coordinator for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.
Anyone with special disabilities can register for the Night to Shine prom but Wetherington said SkillsUSA is reaching out to group homes and facilities where special-needs people may live.
The 2018 prom ushered in 200 attendees but Wetherington said First Baptist will accommodate 300 attendees this year.
“(It’s a) big jump which tells you the importance of an event like that,” she said.
To ready themselves for the main event, volunteers are asking the community to pitch in and donate dresses, suits, accessories and flat shoes for all sizes through the Tiaras and Ties campaign.
All four Wiregrass campuses are collecting donations until Jan. 25. There’s a need for plus-size and men’s clothing. Dresses do not have to specifically be prom dresses, Wetherington said.
“It can be what I call the mother-of-the-bride dress,” she said.
Donatons can be taken to either of the Anthony and Co. Salon locations, as well as First Baptist.
Wetherington said arrangements can be made for pickup if a person can’t get to a drop-off location.
Boutique Days, or fitting days, will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Jan. 18, 23 and 26 in Brooks Hall at Wiregrass.
Salon Day will allow guests to get pampered as they prepare for their big night. Wiregrass students will style the attendees’ hair and do their makeup.
Dry cleaning will be available through Pleats and Creases.
“It’s really a great community partnership to get everyone involved with it,” Wetherington said.
Light refreshments will be served. Registration is free and completed at First Baptist.
