Hamilton County 2019 schedule

JASPER, Fla. — The Hamilton County Trojans will face schools with similar enrollment numbers for most of their football games in 2019.

After playing against a lot of bigger schools the past two seasons, the Trojans have seven Class 1A opponents on the schedule.

That’s not to say the schedule is easy. HCHS has to go through some tough 1A opponents in Lafayette, Fort White, Chiefland, Williston and Union County. There’s also a trip Class 5A Suwannee in Week 3.

But new HCHS coach Richard Vester is positive about the schedule.

“I think it’s pretty balanced,” said Vester. “Seven 1A schools — that’s a fair matchup.”

There are plenty of notable games for Hamilton County in 2019. It starts with a tough three-week stretch against local rivals. HCHS heads to Lafayette in Week 1, hosts Fort White in Week 2 and then the Trojans hit the road to face Suwannee.

“It will be important to get off to a fast start, play well and compete,” said Vester.

There’s also some interesting storylines. Hamilton County hosts Williston on Sept. 20 for homecoming. Williston’s new head coach Ric Whittington was set to coach at HCHS for the 2018 season, but resigned less than a week from the Kickoff Classic.

“The kids will be excited for that one,” Vester said of the game with WHS.

The Trojans head to Newberry on Oct. 4. That game is homecoming for the Panthers. Vester coached at Newberry the past four seasons.
