TIFTON — After months of construction, Planet Fitness is open for business.

The gym, located at 1912 Larkin Road, opened its doors on March 19, according to manager Miranda Goode.

She said that she signed on with the company because she really liked the concept of Planet Fitness.

“It’s a no judgement zone,” she said. “‘No gymtimidation’ is our copywrited term. It’s somewhere where you can be accepted and respected and feel comfortable working out. Everyone belongs. Most of our members are actually first-time gym users. We don’t cater to body-building or power lifting but focus on general fitness.”

She said that since Tifton is known as “The Friendly City” and Planet Fitness promotes a culture of acceptance and respect no matter how fit a person is, she thinks the gym is a good fit for the city.

Goode said that the gym is open 24/7 and that unlimited access and free classes and personal training are part of the classic membership. Black card members get access to a special spa area with tanning and massage and hydromassage chairs.

The gym features dozens of bright purple machines, a timed express workout circuit area and stretching area on the first floor and large locker rooms for men and women, with a second floor dedicated to cardio.
