Papa & Punchanella

As noted in the dedication, grandparents are raising grandchildren in more than 3 million American households.

“Papa & Punchanella” is a children’s book that has something to say to those children and grandparents, as well as any foster or adoptive families.

Punchanella and her two young brothers come to live with their grandparents, through what appears to be a court order.

Specifically, through the little girl and her grandfather, a child’s life in the foster care of her grandparents is explored.

Little Punchanella has many questions about their current living arrangement. The chief one being when will her mom and dad come for her and her brothers?

She also goes through a wide range of emotions.

Papa always answers her questions with patience and love.

The grandparents ensure the children have a home with good food, clean clothes, a place to sleep and toys. Things Punchanella didn’t always have with her parents.

“Papa & Punchanella” is written by Peter Shore and illustrated with cartoons by Chip Williams. The South Georgia creative team notes the book is appropriate for any child being raised by grandparents, foster or adoptive parents.

It would also seem a good book for the grandparents, foster and adoptive parents who have opened their homes to children.

Papa’s answers to Punchella’s questions are not only patient and loving but may impart wisdom to adults in a similar situation.
