At the event, which had been rescheduled due to Hurricane Michael back in October, one graduate from each GSW college/school was recognized, one former student-athlete was inducted into the GSW Athletics Hall of Fame and the Leewyn Finklea and Aeolian Alumni Award recipients were also recognized.

GSW President Neal Weaver told awardees their stories are inspiring and keep faculty and staff motivated hearing of the impact that Georgia Southwestern made on their lives.

Weaver talked about how presidents, faculty and staff, and students come and go, “but the one thing that is constant about this university is the alumni. You are the only group of people who are tied to this university forever. We strive to make this the university you are proud of and you will always come back and be a part of.”

Alumni Affairs Specialist Angela Smith, organizer of the event, said, “This is an opportunity to honor our alumni who have accomplished extraordinary things since their time on campus, and welcome them back, along with their family and friends, to celebrate. Each of these individuals are remarkable representatives of the university and indicative of the level of student leaders that are taught, nurtured and developed at GSW.”

Anderson has established herself as a leader within the Technical College System of Georgia, university officials said.

Having spent nearly all of her professional career working at TCSG schools in progressively responsible roles, Anderson has spent the last 15 years serving as a president. She is currently the president of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, which has four campuses. From 2003-13, Anderson served as president of Moultrie Technical College.

She was a 2005 participant of the Leadership Georgia program and is also a graduate of Leadership Warner Robins. Anderson was named a Georgia Trend Magazine “Top 40 Under 40” list honoree in 2004 and was named to the South Georgia Business Magazine’s list of the 25 Most Influential South Georgians in 2005.

Anderson’s husband, Tony (Class of ’89), is human resources director for the Brooks County School System.

The Aeolian Award is given to an alumnus/alumna who has distinguished his/herself in their profession as well as in their community. The award is chosen based on outstanding lifetime achievement as a distinguished alumni and community leader.
