‘Star Gazers’ host to lead Florida Skies presentation at Live Oak Library

LIVE OAK — A cohost of the PBS show “Star Gazers will lead a Florida Skies presentation next week at the Live Oak branch of the Suwannee River Regional Library System.
James Albury, the coordinator of the Santa Fe College Planetarium as well as cohost for “Star Gazers,” will discuss the night sky during the presentation July 11 at 6 p.m. Albury will also discuss the process of filming each episode of the astronomy show on PBS.
Also as part of its July programming, the library will be hosting a live webcast of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing at 4 p.m. on July 15. The webcast, which is available through the American Museum of Natural History and the STAR Library Network’s NASA My Library program, will feature a guided recreation of Apollo 11’s journey to see how it was executed by crew members and mission control in Houston.
The Live Oak Library, as well as all branches of the SRRL system, will be closed Thursday for Independence Day.
On Saturday, the library will be serving coffee in the new book area from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
On July 10 and July 17, staff member Debra Barney will be teaching a knitting and crochet class, respectively, in the small conference room at 11:30 a.m. Those attending should bring needles and yarn.
Suwannee Fire Rescue will be teaching a CPR and First Aid class July 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Those completing the free class will receive a certificate. Space is limited, so preregistration is encouraged by calling the library at 386-362-2317.
The library’s Mom 2 Mom group meets July 18 at 10 a.m. Door prizes and goodies will be provided. For more information about the group that is presented by the Florida Department of Health – Suwannee County can be gained by calling Healthy Start at 386-362-2708.
Moon rocks will be painted at the library from noon to 1 p.m. July 18. All supplies are furnished.
The Book Club meets July 24 at 2 p.m. to discuss Ruth Ware’s “The Death of Mrs. Westaway.” Copies are available for checkout at the front desk.
The next gathering of the SongFarmers of Live Oak will be July 25 at 5:30 p.m. The gathering features multiple styles of music and genres played in an acoustic, jam format. It is for all ages and skill levels.
On July 26 at 10 a.m., the library hosts its Game Day for Adults. Scrabble and Dominoes will be available but those participating may bring their own games as well.
