- Chris Patton has his hand raised by the referee after defeating Josh Rutgers in the pro welterweight division Saturday night at Mathis Auditorium during the mixed martial arts Winnersville Wars.
VALDOSTA – The Winnersville Wars took place Saturday night with 12 fights that gave the Mathis Auditorium crowd their money’s worth.
The main event of the evening was a pro lightweight fight in which Kamrin Naville, out of Valdosta, was defeated by Josh Odom, out of Tallahassee.
Odom won 1:09 into round 1 with an arm-bar submission move. Naville had just taken down Odom after the two exchanged punches, but with one move, Naville lost position and his arm to Odom (5-4).
In the other main event, Shaun Gay faced off with Gary Owens in a pro welterweight fight. Gay came out the winner 57 seconds into round 1 with a guillotine choke hold.
Gay got Owens into the hold, after the two exchanged punches, and lifted him off of the ground, before bringing him to the canvas and applying the choke hold.
Crowd favorite Brett Chism, a former Valdosta High wrestler and a former MMA amateur champion, improved his record to 8-1 after defeating Wayne Music in a pro light heavyweight bout.
Chism and Music took their time sizing each other up with quick punches and kicks, before Chism landed a solid hook that put Music on the mat. Chism won with a TKO just 1:41 into round one.
The fight before that was one of the most brutal of the evening. Josh Samman faced off with Mike Adams in a pro middleweight fight.
After a tough first round, in which both fighters looked evenly matched, the second round ended with a knockout by Samman, 52 seconds in. With a solid shot, Adams’ head hit the canvas and Samman sent a flurry of punches his way until the ref stopped the fight.
