THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Sheriff’s deputies are looking into an attack Thursday on two Thomas County emergency medical personnel.
Thursday morning, two Thomas County medical personnel responded to a call on Grace Lane around 10:40 a.m., said Thomas County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Steve Jones. They went inside the house and found Joseph Plunkett standing in a corner.
Plunkett, 35, turned violent and attacked both the medics. Jones said Plunkett may have used a pair of scissors along with a box cutter-type instrument and possibly a butcher knife.
Both responders received lacerations and bruises but were able to hang on long enough for deputies to respond, Jones said, with the help of a neighbor who assisted in subduing Plunkett.
“It was quite a scary scene,” Jones said. “I don’t ever recall medical personnel being attacked like that.”
Plunkett was taken to the Thomas County Jail and then to a hospital for treatment before being returned to jail. He faces two charges of aggravated assault.
The EMTs were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries and eventually were released.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in for help with the case.
