Pair of house fires keep firefighters busy

VALDOSTA — A pair of blazes kept Valdosta firefighters busy Thursday.

Around 5:13 p.m., firefighters headed to a call at 807 S. Fry St., finding smoke coming from the first floor or a two-story apartment building, a Valdosta Fire Department statement said.

The fire had already been extinguished thanks to the actions of a nearby resident. The fire was caused by unattended cooking, the statement said.

One person was injured and was helped by EMTs. Four people were displaced by the blaze and are being helped by the Valdosta Housing Authority.

At 6:35 p.m., the fire department headed to a structure fire at 1715 N. Lee St. Firefighters found light smoke coming from the front door of a single-family home, the fire department said.

As with the first fire, the second one had already been put out by the time fire crews arrived and the cause was listed as unattended cooking, the statement said.

One person was injured and helped by EMTs; no one was displaced by the fire, according to the fire department.

The Valdosta Police Department assisted with on-scene operations.
