Fred’s Department Store will soon get some neighbors.
Save-a-Lot grocery store and Peebles clothing store are moving in next door to Fred’s on US 129 South.
Save-a-Lot, a grocery chain that provides a limited assortment of items at value prices, is scheduled to open in June. The store provides savings, up to 40 percent compared to conventional grocery stores.
Owners/Managers Mike and Mark Buris, own five other stores.
Peebles, a part of Stage Stores, carries brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics and footwear for the entire family.
The company operates under the Bealls, Palais Royal and Stage names throughout the South Central states and under the Peebles name throughout the New England, Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern and Midwestern states.
Peebles is scheduled to open sometime this summer.
Tim O’Neill, Project Manager for Vanguard Associates, Inc. of Atlanta, said each store will have about 16,000 square feet.
“It will be a good addition to retail in the area,” he said.
Fred’s moved in the previously vacant store last June. The building housed Kmart several years ago.
Save-a-Lot operates more than 1,150 stores throughout the nation. Stage Stores has more than 656 stores in 33 states.
