Dorothy Ayran, 54 of Charleston, S.C. passed away Tuesday April 17, 2007 at her residence.

She was born on May 13, 1952 in Coffee County to the late Woodroe and Mirel McDaniel Kirkland. She was a homemaker, bowler, enjoyed Home Interior crafts and was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Edguardo M. Mangubat of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Malissa (Chuck) Bolton of Moncks Corner, S.C., Antonina (Jason) Lee, Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren, Stefanie Lee, Anthony Lee, Chaz Bolton, Jana Bolton; two great-grandchildren, Ava Carter, Michael Carter; six sisters, June Owens, Baltimore, Md., Helen Teter, Jacksonville, Fla., Patricia Gurr, Lilburn, Deborah Rabara,, Brenda Gehres, both of San Diego, Calif., Bonnie Simmons, Nashville; and two brothers, Jim Kirkland, Olalla, Wash., Warren Kirkland, Pensacola, Fla. She is preceded in death by a sister, Dianne Peredo.

Barbara Ann Brogdon

Barbara Ann Brogdon, 51, of Nashville passed away Thursday, April 19, 2007 at her residence.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1955 in Ben Hill County to the late John Joseph and Mildred Virginia Chaney Blackstock. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Billy Brogdon of Nashville; one daughter, Gina Adams, Boston, two sons, Billy Brogdon, Jr., Nashville, Andy Vossler, New York, N.Y., five step children, Penny Bullard, Augusta, Mike Brogdon, Quitman, Jody Brogdon, Atlanta, Richard Brogdon, Augusta, William Brogdon, New Orleans, La.; three sisters, Betty Pitts, Kay Floyd, Carolyn Bryan, all of Fitzgerald; eight grandchildren, Deanna Adams, Amber Adams, Gracie Adams, Clarence Adams, Tristen Brogdon, Caylie Brogdon, Logan Vossler, Gabby Vossler. She is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Dougherty and a brother, J.C. Blackstock.

Virginia Denise Stewart

Virginia Denise Stewart, 60, of Alapaha died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the Bacon County Hospital in Alma, GA after a brief illness. She was born on July 14, 1946 in Lowndes County to the late J. B. Cofield, Sr. and Rudine Allen Cofield. Ms. Stewart was a Cosmetologist at Shirley’s His and Hers Styling Salon and was a member of the Azalea City Church of God.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter in law, Michael Stewart of Lowndes County, Craig and Chasta Stewart of Berrien County, five grandchildren, Cole Stewart, Carley Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Jordan Stewart and Blake Stewart, three brothers and sisters in law, J. B. (Jerry) Cofield, Jr. and Nancy Cofield of Jacksonville Beach, FL, (Judge) Dewey and Joyce Cofield of Valdosta, Bobby Jack and Wanda Cofield of Tifton, one sister and brother in law, Shirley and Wilbur Pelphrey of Valdosta, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Ms. Stewart is preceded in death by her parents and one son, Alford Sherrod Stone.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2007 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Reverend Carroll Allen officiating. Mae Ella Jenkins

Mae Ella Jenkins, 61, of Lakeland died Friday, April 13, 2007, at the Crestwood Nursing Home.

Born June 26, 1945, in Lakeland, she was the daughter of Mr. Willie James Williams and Mrs. Lucille Foster, both of whom preceded her in death. She attended the Lanier County Public Schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Jenkins; son, Clayton Jenkins; two brothers, Willie James Williams Jr. and James I. Williams; one sister, Deloris Burgess.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, MiltonJenkins of Houston, Texas, Tracy Jenkins (Chevella) of Hawaii and Tony Jenkins (Loveretta) of Lakeland, Ga.; two daughters, Shannala Braswell (Randy Miller) and Kandi Jenkins, both of Lakeland; five grandchildren, Ralph Braswell Jr., Randy Miller Jr., Kearrow Jenkins, Tony Jenkins Jr. and Jack Jenkins; three brothers, Enoch Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, Sylvester Williams (Eva) of Salinas, Calif., Alfonzo Williams of Lakeland; three sisters, Kathryn McCoggle (Leroy) of Cleveland, Ohio, Lucilla Wells (Willie E.) and Hazell Taylor, both of Lakeland; uncle, John Norwood (Johnnie Mae) of Naylor, Ga.; aunt, Johnnie Mae Norwood (John); four sisters-in-law, Betty Wilson (Author) and Diane Jenkins (Johnny), both of Lakeland, Evelyn Cowart (Harold) of Warner Robins and Willie Pearl Jenkins (Alan) of Milton, Fla.; two special friends, Mary Wilson and Lori; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends.

Velora Walker

Velora Walker, 83, of Nashville passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at Berrien Nursing Center.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1923, in Berrien County to the late Lossie Levi and Sarah Elizabeth Hall Rowan. She was a homemaker and member of Vickers Church. She is the widow of Samuel Jackson “S.J.” Walker.

She is survived by one daughter Carolyn Giddens of Nashville; three sons, Jackie Walker, Ronald Walker, both of Nashville, Charles Walker, Hazlehurst; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Louise Boyd, Nashville; and one brother, Sam Rowan of Nashville. She is preceded in death by her son, Billy Walker and two sisters Myrtice Bostic and Jeanette Rowan.

Mary Jane Bethay (Mother Mann)

Mary Jane Bethay (Mother Mann), 73, of Valdosta was born Oct. 11, 1933 in Lumpkin, Ga. to the late Will and Flossie Mae Latimer. Mary departed this life on April 13, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center.

She leaves to mourn Mr. William Mann of Valdosta; six children, Johnny Treadwell (Barbara), Valdosta, Tony Treadwell (Laura), Valdosta, Dorothy Jackson (Tyrone), Jacksonville, Fla., Annie Edwards (Patrick), Jacksonville, Fla., Andrew Bethay, Jacksonville, Fla., Elaine Bethay, Jacksonville, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters; one brother; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Vivian McIlvaine Brannen

Mrs. Vivian McIlvaine Brannen, 83 of Valdosta, died on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on April 23, 1923 in Woodbury, N.J., she was the daughter of the late William S. and Reba (Jesse) McIlvaine. She graduated from Western High School, Washington, D.C. in 1940 and from the University of Maryland Nursing School in 1945. Vivian Martiel McIlvaine married Joseph Harrison Brannen on September 12, 1946 in Washington, DC and moved to Valdosta in 1953. Mrs. Brannen was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was one of the original founders of Valwood School.

Mrs. Brannen is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Joseph Harrison Brannen of Valdosta; daughter and son-in-law, Jo Martiel and Eric Wallace of Boca Raton, Fla.; sons and daughter-in-law, William McIlvaine (Rusty) and Rosemary Brannen of Valdosta, Joseph Clem Brannen of Tucker; grandchildren, Benjamin McIlvaine Brannen of Valdosta, Mary Rebecca Brannen Karlowicz of Atlanta, Anders Erickson Wallace and Kierston Vivian Wallace both of Boca Raton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007, at First United Methodist Church with Dr. A. Jason Shirah and the Rev. Thomas Mason, Jr. officiating. L.C. Copeland Sr.

L.C. Copeland Sr., 87, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at his home. Born Oct. 2, 1919, in Lowndes County, Ga., he was the son of Mr. Ollie Copeland and Ada Hall Copeland, both of whom preceded him in death.

Mr. Copeland worked for the City of Valdosta as a Cross Guard. He was a member of St. James Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Copeland, and daughter, Faye Foster.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, L.C. Copeland (Marjorie) and Larry Copeland (Francine), both of Valdosta, Ga., and Leslie Copeland (Julia) of Tifton, Ga.; two daughters, Emma Day of Hinesville, Ga., and Lynn Boykin (Leroy) of Barney, Ga.; mother of his children, Virginia Copeland; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brother, Louis Copeland; sister, Shirley Daniels (Joe); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and school crossing guard.

Samuel Savage, Jr.

Samuel Savage, Jr., 58, of Valdosta was born on April 24, 1948 in Valdosta to the late Samuel Savage Sr. and Mabel Savage Clarkston.

Samuel attended Pinevale High School and was employed by the Budd Company from 1969 to 2002 in Detroit, Mich. He retired in December of 2002 and moved back to Valdosta. Sam was the educational Director for four years at the LOCAL 306.

On Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at the age of 58, he entered into his eternal rest. Sam leaves to cherish his loving memory one daughter, Shania Savage and two step daughters, Sophia Donaldson, Karen Smiley, all of Detroit, Mich.; two step sons, Tony Robinson (Montique), Keith Robinson (Annette), both of Detroit, Mich.; six brothers, Charles Townsend (Siila), Brooksville, Fla., Ralph Townsend (Teresa), Robert Savage (Patricia), James Savage (Barbara Philpot), all of Valdosta, Paul Savage (Mary), Lantana, Fla., and Jimmy Roberson (Maggie); four sisters, Luneal Alexander (Nathaniel), Pinetta, Fla., Rosemary Savage, Palatka, Fla., Cheryl Savage, Pinetta, Fla., and Felisha Wright (Eugene); one brother-in-law, Daniel Stewart, Boynton Beach, Fla.; four aunts, Ruther Mae Thomas, Valdosta, Martha Lee, Detroit, Mich., Rebecca Corbett, Brooklyn, N.Y., Thelma Savage, Tampa, Fla.; one uncle, Elder Frank Townsend (Lillie Mae), Jacksonville, Fla.; a very devoted friend Rosetta Scott, also an adoring host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Min. Alford O’Neal Williams

Min. Alford O’Neal Williams was born on May 10, 1942 in Lakeland, Ga., Lanier County to the late M.L. Williams and Okella Reese Williams. He received his education in Lanier County, he resided in Rochester, N.Y. from 1965-2004. In August of 2004, he moved back home where he resided at 406 E. Rogers Street in Valdosta. He was employed by International Union of Operating Engineering Local 832 Rochester, N.Y., for 38 years. He retired in October 2003. He was joined in holy matrimony to Velma Maxine Hayes Williams on June 11, 1962. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior of his life on May, 5, 1982 at Church of God By Faith , Adam Street in Rochester, N.Y. He later became a member of First Born Church also in Rochester, N.Y. After moving back home, he became a member and Assistant Pastor. He also was the Bible Study and Sunday school teacher at the Power of Love First Born Church in Lakeland, Ga., where he was very faithful and dedicated. He truly loved God, his family, friends, and others. He was preceded in death by the late Mr. Andrew Williams (brother) and the late Lucile W. Hayes (sister).

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Velma Williams of Valdosta; five children, Dennis O’Neal Williams (Keisha), of Nashville, Ga., Marquerite Williams, Glenn Anchorage, Alaska, Victor Z. Williams (Jennifer), Atlanta; one sister, Pastor Emma M. Locks, Lakeland, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; God children (Keisha, Franklin, Tiffany, and Brittney Damon, all of Rochester, N.Y.; five sisters-in-law, Lillie M. Hayes, Mary A. Howard (William), Rosa L. Hayes (L.C.), all of Waynesboro, Miss., Elner Haynes of Atlanta, Ida M. Williams of Belleview, Fla.; two aunts, Wileam Council of Valdosta, and Sarah Williams of Detroit, Mich.; one uncle, Jimmy Bell, Valdosta; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, loving and caring friends. Like a brother, like a sister, Sidney and Carolyn Ryan spent many wonderful years in Rochester, N.Y. with him and also at their home and with Personal Care Home in Valdosta, Ga.
