Thelma Lee Beck
Thelma Lee Beck, 73, of Baconton died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home with interment held in Oakview Cemetery in Camilla. The Rev. Joe Rehberg and the Rev. Mack Beck will officiate.
Active pallbearers include Luke Beck, Jimmy Beck, Terry Beck, Ricky Elmore, Steve Coleman and Fred Parks. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Wilson and Tootsie Turner.
Born Feb. 17, 1934 in Jeff Davis County, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family owned construction business. Mrs. Beck was the daughter of the late Harley D. Register and Ammie Mae Maddox Register and was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Register.
Mrs. Beck was a loving and special wife, mother and sister that loved camping and baking.
Survivors include her husband, Billy “Buck” Beck, Sr. of Baconton; sons, “Billy” Buck Beck, Jr. and wife, Marion Gwen of Camilla; Bobby Lee Beck and wife, Debbie of Baconton; Allen Bryan Beck and wife, Donna Michelle of Ray City; daughter, Terri Lynn Barnard and husband, Henry Lee of Baconton; sister, Jannette Register of Camilla; step mother, Mary Register of Camilla; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Clifton Maurice Kinney
Clifton Maurice Kinney, 73, of Sunlight Road, Ellijay, Ga., passed Wednesday, June 13th, 2007 from the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga. He was a member of the Catholic faith. He retired as a U.S. Naval Veteran with 22 Years of Service. During his Naval Career he served as a warrant officer on helicopters for Naval rescue. Following his military career, Mr. Kinney retired with Hardee’s Food Systems with employment of 20 years.
He is survived by his loving family members, daughter and son-in-law, Teri and Terry Knight of Ellijay, Ga.; grandchildren, Jessica Ann Clevenger, Jason Andrew Kinney, Jennifer Ann Kinney, Clifton Jacob Parks Knight; two great-grandchildren; brothers Bruce Michael Kinney of Jonesboro, Ga. Richard Kinney of Sanford, Fla., and Darrell Kinney of Stevens Point, Wis.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Kinney is preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Virginia Kinney and son George Allen Kinney.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday June 16, 2007, from the Good Samaritan Catholic Church in Ellijay, Ga. with Father Randy Maddox officiating. Military graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday June 17, 2007 in Sunset Cemetery in Valdosta, Ga. with Father John O’Brien officiating. Charles Evan Hall
Charles Evan Hall, 63, of Hahira died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Lake City, Fla. He was born in Lenox, Ga. on June 24, 1943 to the late Harvey Jordan and Ruth Virginia McCall Hall and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Hall was a building materials salesman and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bland Hall of Hahira; three sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Marnee Hall of Old Hickory, Tenn., Dennis and Brandi Hall of Valdosta and Darrell and Denise Hall of Hahira; a daughter, Kaitlyn Hutton of Nashville; seven grandchildren, Ander Hall, Chandler Hall, Ethan Hall, Henry Mack Hall, Turner Hall, Brinson Hall and Evan Hall; one sister, Bertie Mae Rogers of Ashland, Ala.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Georgene Hall of Land O’Lakes, Fla., Eddie Lee and Philia Hall of Sparks; his mother-in-law, Artie Bland of Valdosta; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Tom Tomberlin of Callaway, Va.

Dr. Kevin Lawrence Tomlinson
Dr. Kevin Lawrence Tomlinson, 37, of Linden Grove Court, Lake James, N.C., died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Grace Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Brooks County, Ga. on Feb. 24, 1970. Kevin graduated from Cook High School in Adel, Ga. in 1988. He earned his B.S. degree in biology from Valdosta State University in 1994, and then graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1999. Dr. Tomlinson completed his residency through Michigan State University in 2004 where he met and married his wife, Karen. After moving to Lake James that same year, Kevin began working for Mountain Emergency Physicians, and also later served on their Board of Directors. He was the Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Grace Hospital. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Morganton. Kevin enjoyed boating, golfing, his dogs, and especially loved his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Ruth Golden Tomlinson; sons, Cooper Lawrence Tomlinson (age 2 years) and Connor James Tomlinson (age 3 months); his parents, Dennis and Karen Tomlinson of Cecil, Ga.; a brother, Heath Tomlinson and wife, Rebecca, of Adel, Ga.; a sister, Dana Chandler and husband, Bryan, of Wetumpka, Ala.; paternal grandmother, Vernell Barrentine of Ray City, Ga.; father and mother-in-law, James and Ina Golden of Holly, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Katy Hughes and husband, Jason of Holly, Mich.; two nephews and one niece. Kevin was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Norvell and Doris Futch.

Mr. Marty Lane Rutland, 48, of Lenox passed away June 13, 2007 at Memorial Hospital of Adel after a sudden illness. He was born on April 21, 1959 in Tift County to Roy and Nina Wetherington Rutland. He lived most of his life in Cook and Tift Counties. He was a salesman for Vulcan Steel and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Penny Griffis Rutland of Lenox; two daughters, Alana Rutland, Haley Rutland, both of Lenox; parents, Roy and Nina Wetherington Rutland, Lenox; one brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Terri Rutland, Valdosta; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Billie Dean Griffis, Adel; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sonja and Candler Bennett, Adel; nephews, Dillion Rutland, Valdosta and Candler Bennett, III, Adel; nieces, Jessica Rutland, Valdosta and Mackenzie Bennett, Adel; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Thelma Herlihy
Thelma Herlihy, 88, of Stamping Ground, Ky. passed away Monday June 11, 2007 in Georgetown, Ky.
She was born on Aug. 10, 1918 in Chatham Co., Ga. to the late George Washington and Fannie Lou Taylor Wood. She was a homemaker and retired corporate secretary with Nabisco and was a member of Peekskill Baptist Church in Peekskill, N.Y. She was the widow of John Joseph Herlihy.
She is survived by one daughter Laura Herlihy of Eatonton; two sons, Dr. Jack Herlihy, Stamping Ground, Ky., Richard Herlihy, Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Shannon Shay, Little Jack, Colin, Christian and Corey; and one brother, Glenn Wood of Savannah.

Odis Lee Burgman Jones
Mrs. Odis Lee Burgman Jones, 80, who resided at Heritage House Nursing Home, Valdosta, demised June 8, 2007. Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 14, 1926 in Lowndes County to the late Mr. Joe Burgman and the late Mrs. Willie Ophelia Lester Burgman. Mrs. Jones was married on Aug. 24, 1946 to the late Mr. Henry Jones this union brought forth nine children. She joined the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church Delmar, Ga. on July 30, 1941 where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was educated at Mt. Zion School.
She leaves to lament her homegoing; nine loving children, Dea. John Henry Jones (Mamie), Edward Jones (Rita), Louella Graham (Elder Lonnie), Oreatha Thomas, Gloria Watts (Berry), all of Valdosta, Ethel Williams (Isaac), of Miami, Fla., Dea. Johnny Jones (Barbara), James Jones (Lisa), of Valdosta, Robert Jones (Jean), Winter Haven, Fla.; one brother, Joseph Lee Burgman (Dorothy), Delmar, Ga.; one brother-in-law, Lucious Berrian, of Waynesville, Ga.; 34 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; special cousin, Edna Boykins, Tallahassee, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lucille ‘Beauty’ Belchie Matchett
Lucille “Beauty” Belchie Matchett affectionately referred to as “Mother Matchett” was born Aug. 31, 1917. She was born the fifth of 11 children to the late Mark and Toy Cure Belchie. She was a life long resident of Lowndes Co., Valdosta, Ga. She answered the Master’s call on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center. She was 89 years young. She was blessed by God with a long and fruitful life.
Mother Matchett’s life of Christian love and joy was a blessing to everyone that met her.
Mother Matchett was educated in the Lowndes County Public School System. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Stafford L. Matchett Sr. To this union eight children were born.
Mother Matchett worked for the South Georgia Pecan factory and later became a faithful and dedicated employee of the First United Methodist Episcopal Church of Valdosta, as an assistant hostess.
Mother Matchett accepted Christ’s call to salvation at an early age. She became a dedicated and faithful servant of Mt. Zion AME Church where she served as a Stewardess, vice-president of her local Women’s Missionary Society, and Treasurer of the Sunday school until her health began to fail.
Mother Matchett was a very patient, loving and virtuous woman of God. She never became tired of well doing for she knew that she would reap the harvest if she did not faint or grow weary. Mother Matchett loved her church and gave her love and support unselfishly and most lovingly.
Mother Matchett was nominated and elected as the Woman of the Year for Mt. Zion AME Church in 2003 and was also recognized for 68 years of faithful and loyal services at Mt. Zion.
Mother Matchett’s love of the Lord and His children caused her to share the gospel message with everyone. She was an avid supporter of other ministries as well. She loved to praise the Lord in song and in testimony. She loved good Holy Spirit filled preaching.
M other Matchett was preceded in death by her husband, Stafford L. Matchett Sr., her very special mother-in-law, Mrs. Emma Matchett Poole, brothers and sisters, Clara Belchie, Flonnie B. Shaw, Walter Belchie, John Belchie, Lula Mae Roberts, Virgina Foster, Claude Belchie, and children, Alfred L. Matchett, Stafford L. Matchett, and Bobby G. Matchett.
Mother Matchett leaves to cherish and celebrate a life of rich memories: a daughter-in-law, Ella M. Matchett of Miami, Fla. (wife of the late Stafford L. Matchett Jr.); three loving sons, Curtis (Helen) Matchett, Vidalia, Benjamin (Earnestine) Matchett, Valdosta, Calvin (Janice) Matchett, Valdosta; two faithful and devoted daughters Emma Matchett (Tommy) Reviere, Valdosta, Pastor Linda J. Matchett, Valdosta; two loving sisters, Louise B.
