VALDOSTA — Theatre Guild Valdosta will recognize its best plays, performers, directors and technical work this evening with the 17th Annual Rosie Awards.
The Rosies are Theatre Guild’s version of the Tony awards, and the ceremony is a chance to celebrate the end of each season.
The 2006-07 season included the musical “Oklahoma,” directed by Grant Brown; “Tribute,” directed by Linda Stikkel; “The Nerd,” directed by Pauline Player; “Beau Jest,” directed by Tammie Glasscock.
While each director and show are in the running for the best director and best show award, the performance awards run the gamut touching upon fine performances from each production. “Oklahoma,” which had the season’s largest cast, has the most performing nods with 12 nominations.
Matt Kelley has two nominations: A lead actor nod for the nerdy Rick Steadman in “The Nerd;” a feature actor nomination for Ali Hakim in “Oklahoma.” Mary Ann Green received two nominations: A feature nod and a supporting actress nod for Gladys Pertrelli in “Tribute” and mother Miriam Goldman in “Beau Jest” respectively. Ken Kinard has two nominations in cameo and feature actor for Cord Elam in “Oklahoma” and Joel Goldman in “Beau Jest” respectively.
Following the Rosies, the Guild’s Dosta Playhouse stage will be dark for a while, but work will be under way preparing for the 2007-08 season of shows “Harvey,” “Lost In Yonkers,” “Marvin’s Room,” and “The Foreigner” as well as two children’s shows with the TGV’s Gingerbread Players.
