Workers compensation seminar scheduled Nov. 12

VALDOSTA — The South Georgia Employer Committee and the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce will present a Topic Update seminar, “Workers Comp 101.” The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at the Georgia Department of Labor, 221 S. Ashley St.
Registration and a continental breakfast will be held from 8:30 – 9 a.m. Registration received by Nov. 8 will be $15, or $20 at the door. Please make checks payable to SGEC, complete registration and mail. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
G. Robert Ryan Jr., is the founding partner of Ryan Law Firm, LLC in Valdosta. He has devoted a substantial portion of his practice to workers’ compensation law since 2002. Ryan regularly represents clients throughout the Georgia and has extensive experience representing insurers, self-insureds and employers in workers’ compensation mediations, hearings, and appeals. Ryan received his J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 1999 and his B.A. from the University of Florida in 1996, where he was a National Merit Scholarship recipient and a member of the University Honors Program. Ryan is a graduate of Lowndes High School in Valdosta. He began his legal career as law clerk for the Hon. Hugh Stone and Hon. David Barrett in the Enotah Judicial Circuit of Georgia, and later was an assistant district attorney in the Enotah Circuit, serving under District Attorney Stan Gunter. Ryan is married to the former Emily Brady. The Ryans reside on the family homeplace in Brooks County.
This seminar is designed to meet the needs of business owners, managers, and human resources professionals and will include:
— Overview of WC, benefits available, and what constitutes an compensable injury.
— Issues regarding aggravation of pre-existing condition, gradual onset injuries, and claimant’s misrepresentation of condition.
— Medical treatment issues and Panel of Physicians.
— Return to work – the conundrum of light duty.
— WC investigations.
