THOMASVILLE — After scorching his way through the Minors up to AAA ball, former Thomasville Bulldog Hurston Waldrep has made the MLB’s top 100 prospects list. The list is made up of young Minor and Major Leaguers who are rising through the ranks and Waldrep made the rankings at No. 100.

After the Braves drafted the former Bulldog out of Florida, Waldrep began his professional baseball career with the Braves single A ball club in Augusta. He stayed there for a total of one game before moving up to Rome, the Braves high A club.

Three games and 17 strikeouts later, Waldrep advanced to the Mississippi Braves, Atlanta’s AA affiliate, for another three-game stint. His last game of the year was played in Gwinnett with the Braves AAA franchise.

In total, Waldrep played in eight games throughout the minors and was truly dominant. Through 29.1 innings, he hurled a collective ERA of 1.53, struck out 41 and walked just 16 batters. He allowed just 19 hits and recorded a 1.19 WHIP.

His best outing was in Rome, where in three games he struck out 17 batters, walked just five and allowed only four hits in 12 innings pitched.

The right hander from Thomasville seems destined to be an Atlanta Brave and, during an interview with The Athletic, Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos said, “We’re excited about the kid we drafted last year, Hurston Waldrep,” when talking about the future of the Braves rotation.
