HAHIRA

Bessie Mae Keel McLean

Bessie Mae Keel McLean, 96, of Hahira, died on Sunday, March 25, 2007, at her residence after a lengthy illness. Born in Toombs County in 1910, to the late Irvin Franklin and Rosa Mae Keel, she had lived in this area for the past 80 years. Mrs. McLean was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dot and Terry Hall of Hahira; a son, Daniel G. McLean, of Hahira; seven grandchildren, Andy Hall of Hahira, Lydia (John Giffin) Hall of Greenback, Tenn., Adam Hall of Hahira, Tracy (Michael) Wellman of St. Augustine, Penny (Gary) Nowell of Lake Park, Susan (Martin) Hardy of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Roland (Anna) Hall of Atlanta. Also surviving are five great- grandchildren, Andrea (Jay) Roberts of Hahira, Trey Hall of South Carolina, Hanna Hall, Lillian Hall and Amelia Hall, all of Augusta; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. McLean was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lane McLean; and two daughters, Fae M. Hall and Laila Iris McLean.

Funeral services will be held for Mrs. McLean at 2 p.m., today, March 28, 2007, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Rev. Clyde Stokes and the Rev. Skip Van Nus will officiate. Burial will follow in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 205 Woodrow Wilson Drive, Valdosta, GA 31602. VALDOSTA

Robert (Bob) Mackey

Robert (Bob) Mackey, 73, of Valdosta died at his residence on Monday, March 26, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to the late Ernest and Mary Hercules Mackey, he worked in the container industry and was retired from the Federal Packaging Corporation. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Mackey was also a volunteer firefighter in his hometown of Martins Ferry, Ohio. Mr. Mackey had been a resident of Valdosta since 1994, and had been a member of Open Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jeanne Koch of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Thomas and Paula Mackey, Jeffery and Rhonda Mackey, all of Reidsville, N.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Chuck McConn of Bridgeport, Ohio; four stepchildren, Aaron and Jane Rice of Douglasville, Frankie and Dorothy Rice of Hahira, Steve and Bonnie Rice of Hiram, and Lynn Dupree of Nashville; 18 grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Robert Koon of Wheeling, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Elizabeth Mackey; a son, Timothy Dean Mackey; and sister, Elsie Koon.

A memorial service for Bob Mackey will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Carroll Joye officiating. James Monroe Johnson Jr.

James Monroe Johnson Jr., infant son of James M. Johnson and Marsha Swain, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center. Following the parents’ wishes, he will be cremated and a private family service will be held. Music Funeral Services of Valdosta is serving the Johnson family.



Ruthie Miley

Ruthie Miley, 67, of Grooverville, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Brooks County Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home of Quitman.
